Both an indoor and an outdoor playhouse give children a space of their own, but they suit different homes and different lives in Dubai. The climate, the space you have and how your family lives all point one way or the other, and for many families the answer is one of each. This guide compares the two in detail so you can decide what fits your home.

Indoor playhouses

An indoor playhouse is a built in wooden structure inside the room: a play loft, a den or a house shaped bed. It works all year regardless of the heat outside, which matters in Dubai for the long summer when outdoor play is limited. Because it is anchored to the wall and built to measure, it often doubles as a bed with storage underneath, so it earns its place in the room every single day.

Outdoor playhouses

A garden playhouse gives children fresh air, room to run and a larger structure that can combine a house, a slide, a climbing frame and swings. It is ideal for the cooler months and the evenings, when Dubai gardens come alive. The trade off is the climate: an outdoor structure has to be built for sun, heat and humidity, with weather resistant timber, UV stable finishes and fixings chosen for the conditions, and it needs some maintenance to stay in good condition.

The Dubai climate is the deciding factor

An outdoor playhouse, built and shaded correctly, comes into its own from autumn through spring and on summer evenings. Both types are built to the same safety principles, adapted to their setting. Indoor playhouses are anchored to the wall, with guard rails, rounded edges and soft landing zones. Outdoor structures are secured to the ground, with fall zones and soft surfacing designed into the layout, plus materials and fixings chosen to stay safe in the sun and heat. Materials and maintenance

Indoors, the focus is on low VOC finishes and durable joinery that survives daily use. Outdoors, the focus shifts to weather resistance: timber and finishes that handle UV, heat and humidity, and fixings that do not corrode. An outdoor playhouse needs occasional care, a check of the fixings and a refresh of the finish over time, while an indoor one is largely maintenance free. Neither is difficult, but it is worth knowing before you choose.

Cost comparison

Cost depends on size and features more than on location. A built in indoor play loft is priced like bespoke joinery and often replaces a separate bed, so it can be excellent value for the space it saves.
